What is a gastroenterologist?
A gastroenterologist (also known as a GI doctor) specializes in conditions affecting your digestive system, which includes the esophagus, stomach, intestine, pancreas, liver, and colon.
To become a gastroenterologist, you need to complete 10 to 15 years of university and clinical training, focusing only on the management of diseases of the digestive system. This training also qualifies them to perform certain exams and procedures (such as gastroscopy and colonosocpy) that general physicians don’t perform.
